Old McDonald Had Some Ice Cream
Sometimes I'm amazed I survived my childhood and early adulthood living in St. Louis. Why? Well, I am quite possibly the world's biggest (self professed) heat weenie. St. Louis has days where it has to be near 129 degrees with 398% humidity. I hate hot weather. I hate to sweat unless I am exercising on purpose or possibly sitting by a pool. When we felt God opening the door for us to move to Nearly Canada, I had quite a few emotional struggles, but one of them was not the climate. I love cold weather. I love wearing layers of clothing. Heat? Not so much.
The forecast today in Nearly Canada was close to 100 degrees. My immediate thought was, "what can we do to avoid playing outside?" The boys don't really understand, "boys, mommy is climate sensitive, so we need to stay inside today." So that means coming up with many fun activities to keep them occupied without the help of bikes, sandboxes, swings and baseball bats. What could that be? Crafts, of course! We had a case of diapers that is no longer a case of diapers, but rather, a garbage truck.
After rest we opted to head to the Playland at McDonald's (or as the boys call it, Old McDonald's). We got ice-cream and then the boys played for about an hour at the Playland. Asher made it all the way to the top of the jungle gym (with a little help from me, which was a bit tricky since I was wearing a skirt and had to figure out how to climb the apparatus while maintaining my modesty).
Even Obed got in on the action. He tried and tried to climb up the big, yellow slide. He couldn't quite get past the incline or the curve, but he had fun trying.
And finally, we ended the evening with a little family dance time. Here the boys are getting down to Ray Charles' "I've Got a Woman." A good day spent almost entirely in air conditioning. I pray God never moves us to a southern state. I think the boys might be at risk for a vitamin D deficiency from lack of sun exposure since I would find all sorts of creative ways to avoid sweating.

I pray that I never have to dance with Asher. He's scaring me.
McDonalds ice-cream without me? How could you?

P.S. You should pray to move to Belgium, there is no air conditioning here because it never really gets above 80. In fact, I have pretty much worn some sort of layer for the entire year we have been here.
No worries Lisa - I sang Indigo Girls the whole time I was driving there in my beat up red car.
We, too, love Old MacDonalds here in Almost Mexico (my kids call it the same thing). Crazy thing Kirsten, is that a lot of the Playlands here are OUTSIDE. I know of a few indoor ones, but don't they just seem to always face the giant greenhouse enclosure WEST? A brand new Carl's Jr. was just built next to Costco...the playland is OUTSIDE.
Thanks for the craft idea, too. I went down to Michaels last week about bought a big box o' foam shape stickers and foam sheets. Lots of fun! But now we're finding little blue squares, yellow triangles and pink circles in strange places, especially stuck to the interior walls of the washing machine, after they have hitchhiked their way through the warm cycle.
